Nintendo: Wii U pre-orders are “extremely strong”
After Nintendo announced the Wii U price and launch date yesterday, it opened the floodgates to pre-orders around the world. That includes major video game retailers in the US, including GameStop, Best Buy, and Toys ‘R Us, who have begun taking Wii U pre-orders. And according to Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime, so far the reception has been positive. Speaking to GamesIndustry, Reggie said “the feedback that I’m getting from retailers is extremely strong in terms of pre-sales”. The Wii U starts at $299 for the Basic model, with a $349 Deluxe model available as well. For more on the different SKUs, check out the full Wii U model breakdown.

Reggie added that when it comes to pre-orders and consumers putting down money for a new console, it’s about whether console makers are presenting good value to the customer. And according to Reggie, “based on some of the reports I’m getting, the answer is yes”. The Wii U can be pre-ordered several places, some stores already offer pre-order incentives and trade-in deals. GameStop offers $50 towards your Wii U pre-order if you trade in your old Wii console. The retailer also has trade-in deals for the the PS3 and Xbox 360, where you can get up to $150 towards your Wii U pre-order.

GameStop is also offering their own Wii U bundles. The “Wii U classic bundle” has the Wii U Deluxe set, a copy of LEGO City Undercover and New Super Mario Bros U, plus a Wiimote, all for $510. Another bundle includes the Deluxe console version plus copies of Assassin’s Creed 3 and ZombiU. You can see more bundles on GameStop.

Have you pre-ordered the Wii U yet? Do you plan on pre-ordering anytime soon? Let us know in the comments section!

Wii U games to cost $60, Pro controller to cost $50
Nintendo didn’t have enough time to talk about some of the Wii U accessories today, but we just got word that the Wii U Pro controller will be priced at $49.99. Which is about $10 more than the price of a regular current gen controller from Sony and Microsoft. The Pro controller resembles the Xbox 360 controller in many ways, features dual analog sticks, and is intended for gamers who wish for a more traditional control scheme with the new console. Analyst Michael Pachter believes that third party publishers such as Activision forced Nintendo to offer this traditional controller with the Wii U. While Nintendo will sell the Wii U GamePad separately in Japan (for a whopping $170), this won’t be the case in North America or Europe. No word yet on why exactly only Japanese gamers will get to purchase a secondary GamePad.

For games, Nintendo confirmed what we suspected for a long time: Wii U games will indeed cost $60

Wii U price starting at $299, launching November 18
After much anticipation, Nintendo has officially announced the North American Wii U price and launch date. Just like in the Japanese market, Nintendo will launch with two Wii U models: one starting at $299, and a Premium model at $349. Nintendo also announced some accessories for the console, including stands for the GamePad.
The “base” model will be in white and will include the Wii U console, Wii U GamePad, all necessary cables (including HDMI), and feature 8 GB internal storage. This model will retail at $299.

The “Premium” model will be called “Deluxe”, will come in black, and will up the internal storage to 32 GB flash memory. the Deluxe model is expected to include the new Nintendo Network Premium service, which runs for 2 years and offers gamers 10% off on software and game downloads. This model costs $349, and will include Nintendo Land.

Finally, the Wii U launches on November 18, 2012 across North America. Just like Wii U Daily reported back in April.
